The Craig County girls were no match for the Christiansburg basketball team in a game at Christiansburg last Thursday. The Blue Demons poured it on the Rockets for an 83-32 final.
Christiansburg, a Class 3 River Ridge District team, dominated from the outset. The Demons were up 53-15 at the half and continued to press the Rockets after intermission.
“We have no business playing them,” said Craig coach Randy Hale. “We’re just not up to their caliber of play, and they pressed us the whole game up until the last couple minutes. We couldn’t handle their pressure.”
Kaylee Pauley led the Rockets with eight points while Taylor Sloss had six and Maddy Oliver had five points. Autumn Hutchison had four rebounds while Oliver and Tierrney Zysk had three each. Zysk and Jaci McAlwee had two assists each.
Now 4-5, the girls had another tough one on the schedule Tuesday with Parry McCluer coming to town. On Thursday the girls are at Eastern Montgomery and next Tuesday, January 23, they’re off to Covington.
“We’re better than Eastern Montgomery,” said Hale. “If we show up we should win that game.”
