Craig County senior Lynsey Taylor will run in the state Group 1A girls’ cross country meet this Saturday at the Great Meadow course in The Plains, VA. All six Virginia High School League classifications will hold state races for both boys and girls at the scenic horse farm near Warrenton.
Taylor will run in the girls’ Group 1A race at 11:45 am on Saturday. Lynsey qualified for the state race by finishing sixth overall in the Region C, 1A meet at the Southwest Virginia Training Center in Hillsville, Va last week. Taylor ran a time of 21:54.70 and the winning time was 20:42.2 by Sophie Dryden of Parry McCluer.
Alexis Andrews of Craig County also ran in the girls’ meet but didn’t qualify. She had a time of 24:33 to finish 20th among 44 girls competing in the meet.
Auburn won the girls’ regional team championship. Galax took second and Parry McCluer was third.
Auburn also won the boys’ race, sweeping the team honors. George Wythe was second and Parry McCluer took third.
Nolan Harris won the individual region championship for the boys. Dalton Frango ran for Craig County and finished 33rd among 60 boys in the field.
