“A library is not about building walls, it’s about tearing them down. It means opening up opportunities for learning. It means bringing people of all ages together. It means expanding our awareness beyond the world in which we live. We dream of open doors and unlimited possibilities for our community.” This statement comes from a small community like ours, with a vision for the future. A Library for Charles City County, Virginia
A library is an integral part of a community: It is as vital as the post office, the bank and the fire department. A welcoming library makes a positive statement about a community and can help visitors navigate their way. Our national forest and beautiful scenery make Craig County a popular destination for bikers, hikers, hunters and other outdoor enthusiasts. By partnering with tourism, we provide a vital service and boost our economy.
A library is a right: “Libraries are America’s great information equalizers- the only place people of all ages can find and freely use such a diversity of resources,“ John W. Berry, former president of the American Library Association said.
A library is a need: A library is a free resource of vital information for economic growth. Andrew Carnegie said, “A library outranks any other one thing a community can do to benefit its people.”
A library is a gateway to the community: A sense of community grows from a place where people can have meetings, events, catch up with old friends and meet new neighbors.
A library celebrates the past and the future: By fostering a sense of pride in local writers and artists, a library is a foundation for children and a record of local heritage that spans the generations.
A library is an investment: Laura Bush said, “The most valuable thing I have in my wallet is my library card.” It has been shown over and over that an annual economic benefit of over four times what was invested in operations.
How can the Craig County Public Library serve you? We’d love to hear from you!
