As Governor, Ed Gillespie will work to ensure that every child has the opportunity for quality, personalized learning. In the past four years, Virginia dropped ten spots in Education Week Rankings from number four to 14. Just 10 years ago, Virginia ranked number one in the country.
Ed has put forward a plan to improve the quality of education in Virginia, it begins with giving teachers greater freedom to innovate and work with parents to respond to the unique needs of individual children. His plan provides teachers professional autonomy to make decisions in the best interest of their students while ensuring accountability.
Not only does his plan help teachers teach, it also reforms the SOLs so that we can better understand student success. Ed understands that the rigid “one size fits all” system has crippled many school systems. Our next governor should understand that no matter where a student lives – they should have the opportunity to reach their full potential and that our high school and college graduates should be career-ready on day one, prepared with skills for life. Ed Gillespie is right for our education system, and I encourage everyone to go to edforvirginia.com/education to read his plan in full.
