Obenchain, Percy (Mack) Jr. born on November 14, 1935, passed away in the Veterans Hospital on Friday, August 25.
Born and raised in Covington, Virginia, Percy graduated from Covington High School before moving to Craig County to live with his grandmother Margaret (Maggie Maw) Phillips. He then went on to serve in the U S Air Force. Mack later lived with Bob and Marie All of New Castle, and then moved to Roanoke, Virginia, in 1966. He retired from Norfolk Western/Southern Railroad where he worked as a clerk for 30 years as well as part-time at Kroger Towers for eight years. Mack was a member of Paxton Chapel Church in New Castle.
Mack is survived by his wife of 51 years, Dessie Louise Crawford Obenchain; his mother-in-law, Helen Crawford; sister-in-law Linda Crawford Oiler and brother-in-law Joe Oiler; sister-in-law Nancy Crawford Ellett and brother-in-law Rick Ellett, as well as numerous local nephews and nieces in addition to many cousins in South Carolina and North Carolina. Percy was preceded in death by his parents Dorothy (Phillips) Obenchain Sparks and Percy McCorkel Obenchain, Sr. and sister Paula Ann Obenchain.
Mack loved hunting and fishing, watching football games and playing cards games like Rook and Canasta. He will be sadly missed by family and friends.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, August 28, at Paitsel Funeral Home with Pastor Jim Morris officiating. Interment followed at Crawford Memorial Cemetery located beside Paxton Chapel Church, New Castle. The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, August 27, at Paitsel Funeral Home.
