The Commons is one of the latest buildings in Craig to sport one of the popular Barn Quilt Squares done by local artist Martha Dillard. The Summer Star Flower design was chosen by residents there to grace the former old school house on Route 311 just inside the New Castle boundary line.
The 4×4-foot square is painted on weather resistant material to ensure its longevity. Made up of simple geometric shapes such as squares, rectangles and triangles, it is painted in vibrant colors of lime green, navy blue, yellow and red – all designed to blend in perfectly with the old brick background. Located on the left front of the building close to the Craig County Child Care Center, it is readily visible to those who pass by.
The Barn Quilt square painting is a project that started with Friends of the Library helping to fund the current library.
