On Sunday, August 13, the Jones-Hutchison family held its 90th family reunion at the Level Green Christian Church fellowship hall. The family has held a reunion every second Sunday in August since 1927. Sixty-six family members and friends from Virginia, Tennessee and Kentucky attended, ranging in age from two to 90 years of age.
Betty Jones of Radford and Jerry Jones of Waynesboro hosted the reunion. Sput Jones of New Castle gave the invocation. At 1:00 p.m. the group enjoyed a large, delicious lunch provided by family members.
After lunch the group remembered family members who were unable to attend or who have passed away during the past year. The group celebrated recent birthdays, and shared family happenings, stories, pictures and history.
The family took up collections for next year’s reunion expenses and for the maintenance of William’s Cemetery where many family members are buried.
The reunion concluded with the family tradition of hymn singing. Sput Jones, Greg Huffman and Tim Huffman played and led the singing, assisted by Jeanette Kremer, Emily Jones and Maggie Huffman. The last hymn was the reunion traditional “Blessed Be the Tie That Binds.”
The Jones-Hutchison family plans to meet again next year at Level Green Christian Church fellowship hall on August 12, 2018, for its 91st family reunion. All friends and family are invited to attend.
