Empowering individuals to build a stronger community
Night Sky Program
This Friday, June 30, from 8:00 to 11:00 p.m., the Library will have its first public stargazing evening to introduce everyone to the new telescope. Come join us at the Craig Valley Baptist Church pavilion next to the Field of Dreams for a fun evening. Everyone is welcome!
The Roanoke Valley Astronomical Society donated the telescope to the library recently in keeping with their mission for “the advancement of the understanding and appreciation of astronomy and related sciences among the Society members and the public at large.”
There will be a brief presentation to get us started as dusk arrives. Then, as night falls, volunteers will help us find those night sky treasures. There will be extra telescopes on hand, so with the help of the Baptist Youth Group, everyone can have a turn. Bring your family, bring a friend, but don’t miss an opportunity to better see the beauty that is around us in Craig County. We are fortunate to have especially dark skies in our area so come on out for a night to remember!
The Library telescope is available for groups to check out. If you want to sponsor a stargazing event, please contact the library to work out the details. We are happy to offer this resource to our community.
You can explore the Roanoke Valley Astronomical Society website at www.rvas.org.
Meetings are held on the third Monday of the month at 7:30 p.m.
