Salem High will have one team playing in town this week, as the girls’ soccer team has reached the state semifinal in Group 4A. The Spartans will play on Friday at 10 am at Roanoke College against Jamestown, followed by Jefferson Forest and Kings Fork in the other semifinal at noon. The championship game is Saturday at 12:20 pm at Roanoke College.
The boys’ Group 4A and both the boys and girls Group 3A soccer tournaments are also in Salem this weekend. The boys’ Group 4A semifinals are at Roanoke College Friday with Kettle Run and Midlothian playing at 2 pm, followed by Charlottesville and Chancellor at 4 pm. The boys final is Saturday at RC and it’s scheduled for 5 pm.
The Group 3A soccer is at Salem High for semifinals on Friday and Roanoke College for finals on Saturday. The boys’ semis match Brentsville District and Blacksburg at 2 pm at Spartan Field on Friday, followed by Spotswood and Riverside at 4 pm. The girls’ 3A championship is Saturday at 10 am at RC’s Kerr Stadium and the boys’ final is at 2:40 pm, also at RC.
Group 3A and 4A baseball is in Salem. On Friday in Group 4A Liberty Christian will play Great Bridge at 10 am at Salem Memorial, followed by Harrisonburg against Hanover at 1 pm. Meanwhile, at Kiwanis Field, the 3A semifinals find Turner Ashby against Spotsylvania at 10 am and Riverside against Brookville at 1 pm. Championship games are both at Salem Memorial on Saturday, with the 4A game at 10 am and the 3A final at 1 pm.
The James I. Moyer Complex will host Division 3A and 4A softball. On Friday 4A semifinals find Woodgrove meeting Dinwiddie at 10 am, followed by Freedom-South Riding against Powhatan at noon. The Group 3A semis begin at 2 pm with Brookville against York, followed by Patrick County against Warhill at 4 pm. Championship games are Saturday with the 4A game at 10 am and the 3A game at noon.
Group 1A-4A lacrosse championships will be played at Spartan Field on Saturday, with the girls at 10 am and the boys at 1 pm. Salem was knocked out of a chance to play in the girls’ final with a loss to George Mason on Tuesday at SHS.
Group 3A and 4A tennis singles, doubles and team championships will also be held in Salem. Those events will be hosted by Roanoke College on the Elizabeth Campus courts, just off the entrance to the Salem YMCA. Action begins Thursday and runs through Saturday.
