Barbara (Jean) Perdue Huffman, age 82, passed into the loving arms of her Lord on April 6, 2017, after an extended illness. She was born January 14, 1935, in New Castle, Virginia. Baptized November 7, 1948, she was a member of New Castle Christian Church, Level Green Christian Church, Newport, VA, and the New Testament Church of Christ, Pearisburg, VA. On August 1, 1952, she married Charles W. Huffman, making their home in the Level Green community of Craig County.
A 1952 graduate of New Castle High School, Barbara was a devoted wife and mother, wonderful cook, talented flower gardener and gifted writer. She was a former community writer for “The New Castle Record.” She enjoyed music and loved singing with her beautiful alto voice. Barbara was devoted to organizing donations for the local food pantry, never wanting anyone to be hungry. A past employee of Leggett-Belk and Virginia Tech, Barbara was also a Certified Nursing Assistant.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Virginia F. Paitsel, and her brothers, James S. Foster and James Paitsel. Survivors include her beloved and devoted husband of 64 years, Charles W. Huffman; four sons, Dennis (Florence) Huffman of Newport, Dana (Lynne) Huffman of Christiansburg, Daniel Huffman of Newport, and Deven (Susie) Huffman of New Castle; one daughter, Terri H. (Timothy) Lorenz of Cynthiana, Kentucky. Barbara dearly loved her five grandchildren: Rachel Lorenz, Ethan Huffman, Micah Lorenz, Taylor Huffman and Matthew Huffman. Also surviving are her sisters, Genevieve (the late Kenneth) Hannah of Salem, and Mildred Jeanette (Leslie) Huffman of New Castle as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Special thanks are given to the Heritage Hall and staff in Blacksburg for their care and kindness.
Funeral Services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 9, 2017 at Paitsel Funeral Home with Ministers Bill Frazier and Timothy Lorenz officiating. Interment followed at Fairview II Cemetery in the Level Green community, on a beautiful hill behind their home of 60 years. www.paitselfh.com
