“We had the game won and gave it away,” said Glenvar coach Ben Amos. “You can’t blame the pitchers. They got ground balls and we couldn’t pitch and catch.”
Glenvar took a lead into the seventh but unearned runs allowed Radford to tie the game, then win it in the eighth. A good pitching performance by Austin Meadows was wasted, as he went six and a third innings and left with the lead. Cody Alexander pitched an inning and two thirds and took the tough-luck loss.
“Errors are killing us,” said Amos. “We’re 5-4 but we should be 8-1. We lost three games in the seventh inning we should have won.”
Trip Adams had two hits to lead Glenvar and Alec Thompson scored three runs.
The loss followed a 7-1 win over James River last Friday in Buchanan. Hunter Phlegar pitched five innings for the win and Alexander pitched the final two, fanning three.
Phlegar helped himself with three hits, including a double. Adam Veverka had two hits and drove in three runs.
Glenvar is now off for spring break. The Highlanders won’t play again until April 25, going two weeks without a game.
“I don’t like to be off that long,” said Amos. “We need to play.”
