The Virginia Weldon Cooper Center recently released its population estimates for Virginia and its counties and cities. The City of Radford’s population is projected to grow over the next twenty years. Factors that go into the projection include historical data, influences such as Radford University, and demographic trends. Since the 2010 Census, the City of Radford has seen a 6.3% increase in population, with the current population at 17,179.
Population growth is projected as follows:
- 2020-18,355
- 2030-19,261
- 2040-19,882
The growth of Radford University and overall community growth are factors that contribute to the growth rate. Radford has also received more building permits, as well as seen an increase in sales, meals and lodging tax revenue; these are good indicators the community is growing.
