It’s been a tough season for the Craig County boys’ basketball team, but on Friday night they have a chance to pick up a win. Craig will play at Eastern Montgomery.
The Mustangs are the newest member of the Pioneer District, and thus far they’re 2-5 in district play and 6-11 overall. The Rockets are winless in the Pioneer and 1-11 overall, but they feel like this is a chance to pick up a win. The jayvee game will start earlier than usual, at 4:30 pm, with the varsity to follow.
Last week Craig dropped games to Parry McCluer and Covington. The Rockets fell to Parry McCluer in New Castle, 51-18. It wasn’t as bad as the score indicates.
“We didn’t play too bad,” said coach John Looney. “I thought we defended well, we just don’t have anyone who can score.”
On Friday night the Rockets lost at Covington, 72-29. Devyn Nichols had 13 points to lead the Rockets.
“We just can’t match up with them,” said Looney. “They have too many athletes.”
Craig will be back in action tonight at Narrows, followed by the game in Elliston on Friday. Next week the Rockets return the trip to Parry McCluer on Tuesday.
