Just a few days before Christmas, several members of New Castle United Methodist Church and some of their friends gathered in the church Fellowship Hall to package boxes of food for 17 local families.
Names of the families had been suggested by church members as needing help during the holiday season. After accepting monetary donations from church members and others in the community, some of the church men went shopping for the food items, then a time was set to package the boxes.
Each box contained canned meats (including a ham), vegetables and fruits, cereals, soups, crackers, bread, bags of potatoes and carrots, cookies and candy. Care was taken to put in extra cookies and candies for the families that included children. The boxes were delivered to the families before Christmas, with the wish that their Christmas and the days following would be brighter.
