There’s nothing like watching little kids at an event and experiencing their excitement and innocence, along with their individual characteristics that openly come alive for all to enjoy. The Craig County Child Care Center (CCCCC) held its annual Preschool Graduation Ceremony on May 16 for the ‘Three-Year-Old and Preschool Classes’.
Christie Scott’s ‘Three-Years-Old’ class opened the ceremony with the Pledge of Allegiance. The children performed songs which allowed them to show their individuality, which seemed to cause every parent to smile a little bigger.
“Lisa Via is so very proud of her Preschool class as we had some of the highest PALS (Phonological Awareness Literacy Screening) scores completed this year,” Teresa Oliver, Director of CCCCC, said. “In fact, two children received perfect scores, which we have never had!”
The PALS test was developed by the University of Virginia’s Curry School of Education; the monitoring tool is used for measuring the fundamental components of literacy. “This tool will help insure that the children entering kindergarten are prepared to begin reading,” Oliver explained.
This year the childcare center proudly had nine children to graduate. “We recognized them for their preschool accomplishments,” Oliver said.
As the little kids ‘graduated’ in grade levels, it appeared their parents’ smiles also graduated in size. The common comment shared, seemed to be, “We’re hanging onto every moment we can, as they are growing up so fast!”
Craig County Child Care Center is currently taking enrollment for Fall 2017 in their Preschool and Three-Year-Old Classes. Contact Oliver at 540-864-7700 for more information.
